Charleston , SC. – The 2006 Racing season has started and the MINI of Charleston team is starting at the top. This weekend saw both the MINI of Charleston Road Racing Team and the Solo Team start the season with Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) national event victories.
Mark Chiles, the defending SCCA Solo G Stock class National Champion, picked up right were he left off at last season’s National Championship. In the first National Tour event of the season, Mark added to the lead he held after Saturday’s runs with a strong showing on Sunday, winning the class by being the fastest driver on both days. Co-driver and car owner Jeff Jacobs earned the MINI Cooper S the 2nd trophy of the weekend by finished fourth. MINI of Charleston customer Joe Oliveria finished 7th in his MINI Cooper S.
On the SCCA Road Racing National Series, MINI of Charleston Executive General Manager Brad Davis, started his 2006 season with a commanding Showroom Stock “C” class win in his 2005 MINI Cooper S from the pole position on Carolina Motorsports Park’s 2.0 mile circuit. Second place finisher, Larry DeLude of Easton , Connecticut had his mirrors full of Robbie Davis in the MINI of Charleston Counterfeit MINI until a brake problem in the final laps moved Rob to 4th place. In the post race inspection, DeLude’s car was found to be underweight and Robbie was awarded the third place position in his first ever National Race.
“The stock supercharged MINI Cooper S loved the cold winter air, even if the crew didn’t, and ran flawlessly during the 19 lap race. Thanks to a couple of MINI Club driver improvement schools and other events at CMP, I have lots of MINI experience at CMP and really enjoy coming back here. Last year we started the year with a win here and this year we look to build from this win to an even better year than 2005, when we were forced to change cars 3 different times during the season” said driver Brad Davis. “I don’t know if I’m as excited about another National win as I am about the great job my son Rob did hanging with a driver of Larry DeLude’s experience, until the mechanical problem dropped him back. I’ll have to keep him in the “fake” MINI to keep him from beating me this season.”
Robbie Davis was the 2005 South Atlantic Road Racing Series SSC Champion and Brad was 6th in SSC in the 2005 SCCA National Championship and 16th in the MINI Challenge World Final in Italy in November 2005. Information on Counterfeit MINIs can be found at www.counterfeitmini.com.
